Accessing Electronic Journals Off-Campus -- UW Staff, Students, Faculty

If you are a student, staff, or faculty member at the University of Washington, you can access our electronic journal subscriptions from ON campus by simply clicking on the phrase "UW/ADAI Access" in the Articles database whenever you see it.
If you are OFF campus, these subscriptions will no longer work automatically -- instead, you will need to log into the UW Proxy Server using your UW NetID and a handy tool called the "Proxy Bookmarklet."
In install the Proxy Bookmarklet, navigate to the UW Library Proxy Bookmarklet page, and follow the instructions there to add the Bookmarklet to your web browser's Favorites list (in Internet Explorer, adding it to the "Links" folder in Favorites will turn it into a handy button on IE's toolbar; in Firefox, this can be done by adding it to the "Bookmark Toolbar").
Now, whenever you want to access an online article or journal through the ADAI Library catalogs, you can follow these simple steps:
For "UW/ADAI Access" Links
1. Click on "UW/ADAI Access" for the article you are interested in. This will take you either to the UW Library catalog page for electronic access to that journal (if it's a UW subscription) or directly to the publisher or vendor's web site for access (if it's an ADAI subscription).
2. If you are sent to the UW Library's page, select the electronic subscription provider from the list that appears in the catalog record -- there may be more than one provider, each providing access to a different set of volumes or years. Allow the page to load completely. If you are sent directly to the publisher or vendor site, skip to step 3.
3. Now click on the "Proxy Bookmarklet" either on the Links toolbar (if you installed it that way) or in your Favorites list. This will take you to a screen where you will be prompted for your UW NetID and password. Once you have done this, you should be returned automatically to the publisher's site, where you should now have access to the electronic subscription.
