         In the 
          1920's, several branches of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), 
          located in states across the country, each purchased a mechanical man 
          like the one seen here. They paid approximately $150 to the Character 
          Display Company on Hernden Street in Chicago, Illinois.
